Electro-Acupuncture
Electro-Acupuncture is an approach of preventing and treating diseases, in which electrical stimulator is connected to the points after the needling sensation is obtained, and the sensation would be enhanced via the pulsative current to the points.$G^+`;s%fUr"}&~_(a6Zh
There are different types of electro-stimulator which vary in the mode of output, the pulsatory current is generated by an oscillator, the output voltage ranges from 40-80V, and the output current is less than 1 mA with the advantage of being safe and providing strong stimulation, it may be adopted to replace the hand manipulation.+DF:z d\i2QG%N

In general, 1 to 3 pair of points are selected from the same side of the body or limbs, puncture the point with the filiform needle after the needling sensation occurs and reinforcing or reducing needling manipulation is conducted, set the output potentionmeter of the stimulator to "0", connect the two wires of the output respectively to the handles of the two needles, switch on the power supply, select the desired wave pattern and frequency, gradually increase the output current until the patient gets a tolerable soreness and numbness sensation. The electro-stimulation may last 10-20 minutes. When used in the acupuncture analgesia, the stimulation may be longer. In case the stimulative sensation decreases, the current may be increased properly, or turn off the power supply for 1-2 minutes, then reswitch it on or adjust the output current to have a constant stimulative effect. When the treatment is over, turn the potential to "0" and switch off the stimulator, disconnect the wires from the needles and withdraw the needles. )ad~k5\c-O8k

The low frequency pulsation of the stimulator would stimulate the point via the inserted filiform needle so as to affect the physiological function of the body, relieve the muscular spasm and pain, induce sedation and promote the blood circulation. As the pulsation varies in frequency and wave pattern, the actions of the pulses may be different. The high frequency pulse 50-100/sec is known as dense wave, the low frequency pulse 2-5/sec termed as rarefaction wave.
